Summer Swingset is a collection with 10 easy piano sheet music with helper notes. These simple piano pieces have easy-to-learn patterns that will delight your beginning piano students.

I composed Summer Swingset for a student who was almost ready to start reading on the staff but summer break interrupted. I didn’t like the thought of her practicing all summer only pre-reading, so I created these ten pieces for her to get introduced to notes on the staff with helper notes.

The ten pieces in this easy piano sheet music with helper notes collection are musically satisfying, ranging from 12 to 32 measures. There are a lot of patterns for the beginning piano student to easily learn.

One thing I like to give my students early is the joy of playing with harmonies (two notes together). Three of these pieces feature a few measures with right hand and left hand playing together. Each time, the notes are introduced separately in each hand and then played together.

The ten pieces in this easy piano sheet music with helper notes collection is a great fit for your students who are about to go on break, or if your student is struggling with note reading in the Middle C position (if that is the case, I’d recommend they name notes while they play so they can get a better association of the notes on the staff to the piano keys).

Teaching tips for Summer Swingset: 10 easy piano sheet music with helper notes:

I introduced this collection to my student during our last lesson before summer break. My intention was to let her primarily learn these pieces on her own. Her rhythm has a good foundation (she knows how to “count to 4”), and the rhythm in these pieces is intentionally very easy. My recommendation is that she clap and count then play and count as she works through the music.

My primary goal in our brief introduction to these pieces was two-fold:

1) Introduce her to the concept of playing “hands together” (when the notes are stacked on top of each other, both hands play!)

2) Introduce her to the concept of practicing LONG pieces in small chunks (she’s never played more than 12 measures before) and then putting it all together.
